KDHE is now offering a Compliance Assistance Visit (CAV) for waste management. CAVs are outlined in KDHE's Bureau of Waste Management Policy HW 10-01 and requires you to sign an agreement.
Please note that a CAV will demand that you come into compliance just as if you were inspected during a routine inspection. Additionally, if KDHE finds any serious violations, they will be compelled to consider an enforcement action. Many enforcements are caused by generators not identifying hazardous wastes. Even during a simple CAV, if an inspector identifies an illegal disposal or treatment, then an enforcement action is probably unavoidable!
Before you have a CAV, please let me at least assess your waste streams, if nothing else!
At $50 per hour, plus any cost of reasonable expenses, a compliance audit or general survey may only cost a small quantity generator about $100. A Kansas Generator will take about 4 to 6 hours and an EPA (large quantity) generator may take a few hours to a few days. Call for an estimate.
